More Audi Vehicles To Get AT&T 4G LTE

Barcelona, Spain — AT&T will expand 4G LTE and 3G service to all 2016 model-year Audi vehicles equipped with Audi connect service in North America, the companies announced at the Mobile World Congress.

The models will come with either AT&T’s 4G or 3G service, but Audi has said it will deploy 4G LTE across its model lineup as new or refreshed models come to market.

T-Mobile previously offered 3G service to Audi vehicles in North America, but in 2014, Audi released the A3 with AT&T LTE service, making it the first vehicle equipped with LTE service in North America, Audi told TWICE. In calendar 2015, the 2016 model-year A6, A7 and TT will join the A3 in offering AT&T’s LTE service, Audi said.

All told, North American vehicles with Audi connect are the A3, S3, Q3, A4, S4, allroad, A5, S5, Q5, SQ5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS7, TT, TTS, A8, and S8.

Audi connect with either 3G or 4G service offers Wi-Fi hot spot capability for up to eight devices, navigation, traffic information, gas prices, weather, real-time parking locations and prices, Google Local Search with voice search, Google Street View, Google Earth, and preselected RSS feeds and social media with read-aloud capability.

The 4G vehicles will add 7,000 web radio stations, personalized RSS feeds, over-the-air map updates, and faster wireless speeds for faster Google Earth and Google Street View downloads to Audi’s MMI navigation systems. LTE will also enable faster downloads and streams, including HD video streaming, through the in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot, Audi said.

The vehicles will come with an AT&T SIM card and that can be used with an AT&T Mobile Share data plan.
