Whirlpool Recalls 41,000 Jenn-Air Ovens

BENTON, HARBOR, MICH. – Eight reported incidents, including one resulting in second-degree burns, have prompted Whirlpool to recall about 41,000 Jenn- Air single and double wall ovens.

The problem lies in the models’ extendable roller rack with handle, which can unexpectedly disengage when fully extended, posing a burn risk to users, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said.

The ovens in question bear model numbers beginning with JJW2, JJW3, JMW2 or JMW3, and serial numbers beginning with D or F. About 33,000 units were sold in the U.S. and another 8,000 were sold in Canada from March 2012 through June 2015 by retailers including Sears and Pacific Sales; by distributors including Ferguson; and by builders who placed them in new home construction. The ovens retailed for between $2,500 and $5,000.

Consumers are asked to stop using the extendable roller rack immediately and contact Whirlpool for a free in-home inspection and repair.
