Palo Alto, Calif. — HP announced four new portable PCs, including a new convertible model in time for the back-to-school season.
The new Pavilion x2 merges a thin tablet with a notebook form factor, coming in under 2.5 pounds with the keyboard attached and 1.3 pounds without it.
A newly designed latch-less magnetic hinge allows the keyboard to easily snap on and off. To maximize stability, HP added a hinge extension and optimized the center of gravity toward the front of the device. This allows the 10-inch diagonal HD IPS display to open at 135 degrees for an optimal viewing without tipping, even when the screen is touched, the company said.
The x2 gets up to 10.75 hours of battery life playing FullHD video, runs on a quad-core Intel Atom processor and comes with up to 64GB of storage.
Dual front-facing speakers incorporate B&O Play from Bang & Olufsen and a front-facing HP TrueVision HD webcam has been added.
The x2 comes with one year of Microsoft’s Office 365 Personal, including 60 Skype premium minutes per month and 1TB of Microsoft OneDrive Cloud storage.
It is available in Blizzard White, Sunset Red and Turbo Silver.
HP also announced three new Envy notebooks, in 14-, 15.6- and 17.3-inch display sizes. They boast longer battery life, a new curved profile with an elevated hinge design that offers better ergonomics, backlit keyboards and B&O Play audio
All are optimized for Windows 10 and come in AMD and Intel configurations.
The HP Pavilion x2 is expected to be available on July 21 starting at $299.
The new Envy notebooks are slated for July with select configurations of the 15.6- and 17.3-inch models available in Best Buy on Aug. 30 and July 5, respectively.
The 14 inch Envy starts at $699. The 15.6-inch AMD and Intel models start at $629 and $799, respectively, and the 17.3-inch model starts at $999.
