Lego Dimensions Takes On Skylanders

Burbank, Calif. — After months of swirling rumors, Lego has officially expanded its gaming footprint with an accessory line similar to the Activision Skylanders franchise.

Lego Dimensions, which is part of a partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games, will consist of special minifigures and bricks that can interact and interchange with the video games. Supported consoles include the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation4, PlayStation3 and Wii U.

A Lego Toy Pad is required for the minifigures and other objects to interact with the game. The Starter Pack, which will retail for a suggested $99.99, will include a video game, the Toy Pad, Gateway building bricks, a Batmobile vehicle and three minifigures. The line becomes available Sept. 27.

The company will also sell Level Packs ($29.99), Team Packs ($24.99) and Fun Packs ($14.99) with compatible characters, vehicles, tools and other objects.

The first packs available will include characters from “Back to the Future,” “Lego Ninjago,” “Lord of the Rings,” “The Wizard of Oz” and a variety of DC Comics characters. All of the minifigures will be the same sizes as standard Lego minifigures.
