DEG Honors Dolby, Sony And Warner At Annual CES Awards Event

Lauded for creating 'new opportunities in home entertainment.'

DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group presented its annual Achievement Awards this week at CES 2019, honoring the best in 4K UHD hardware and software products released during calendar year 2018.

During the group’s annual reception, Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby Vision received its Emiel N. Perrone Innovation in Entertainment Technology Award. The award, in memory of DEG’s founding chairman, recognizes “recent technology development that has created new opportunities for the home entertainment industry,” the group said.

DEG said Dolby Vision received the award for “preserving the artistic intent” of film makers which “transforms the entertainment experience with ultra-vivid picture quality” resulting in a “uniquely refined, lifelike image.”

Sony Electronics received the DEG: Excellence in 4K Product Award for its Sony Master Series A9F OLED TV. The criteria to receive the award include “delivery, on a consistent basis, of outstanding audio/video performance, convenience and versatility,” DEG said.

Warner Brothers received the DEG: Excellence in 4K UHD Content Award for “2001: A Space Odyssey” 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc.

The latter two awards were selected by a panel of product reviewers from the industry’s home theater enthusiast and business publications.

In a statement, Amy Jo Smith, DEG president and CEO, said the group, “is delighted to recognize Sony Electronics, Warner Bros. and Dolby Laboratories as purveyors of best-in-class viewing experiences.”
