Rahway, N.J. – iHome’s first HomeKit-certified product, a $39.99 smart plug, will be available for preorder June 15 at iHome.com , with retail availability expected in late June and throughout July, the company announced.
Earlier today, Insteon and Lutron announced availability today of their first HomeKit-certified products, both of which are home-automation hubs.
iHome’s iSP5 smart plug, shown at International CES, is the first in a planned series of products in the new iHome Control line of smart home accessories.
With the smart plug, consumers can use Siri or the iHome Control app to turn on and off lamps, fans and other home devices inside the house or remotely from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Users can group several iHome SmartPlugs into individual “scenes” to control multiple connected devices within a home. The plug doesn’t support lamp dimming.
The control app also allows for the creation of custom scenes to control multiple SmartPlugs with a single command. Users can also create schedules for controlling devices.
Because of its dimensions, the iHome iSP5 SmartPlug fits in a standard wall socket without blocking the second outlet. It requires a Wi-Fi connection, and the iHome app requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 8.1 or later.
The smart plug can also be controlled from iHome’s Android app, but the Android app doesn’t provide for Siri voice control.
