Roost has expanded its smart-home portfolio with a leak and freeze detector.
The company, which markets smart battery and smoke alarm products, adds the Wi-Fi- and app-enabled device to its smart-home lineup. The smart water and freeze detector monitors water pipes, sending an alert to a user’s smartphone if there is a leak or burst.
Its sensors can also detect mold and mildew damage due to high humidity, as well as inefficient energy use due to abnormal home indoor temperatures.
The sensor can be placed close to anything that is a water source, such as a hot water heater, washer, dishwasher, sink or toilet.
The company said it is plug-and-play, without the need for a separate smart home hub. It is also battery operated and can be placed in locations lacking a connected power source. Roost said the battery lasts about three years.
The Roost smart water and freeze detector will ship this fall with a $49 suggested retail.
