After releasing their first smart thermostat nearly 10 years ago, Nest has released their latest innovation in smart home HVAC control, complete with heating and cooling system monitoring and adjustment with the new Savings Finder function and four new color options.
While pre-orders are currently open, the new Nest Thermostat will be available in the coming weeks for $129.99 in the U.S. and $179.99 in Canada on the Google Store and select retailers, including Best Buy and Home Depot.
The new features of the new Nest Thermostats include the Savings Finder, a proactive function that constantly looks for small optimizations and tweaks in your schedule that you can accept using the home app. For example, it might suggest a small change to your sleep temperature to help aid sleep while saving you more on energy.
Additionally, you can use the Quick Schedule function in the Google Home app to set a custom temperature at different times and on different days, and it even offers suggested pre-set temperatures that balance comfort and energy saving.
The new Nest smart thermostat uses Soli technology for motion sensing and uses your phone’s location to check if you’ve left the house. Then it automatically sets itself to an Eco temperature so your HVAC system doesn’t waste energy when you’re not there.
The Nest Thermostat is compatible with the majority of houses and installs in 30 minutes or less. To be sure the new model is compatible, use the Nest online Compatibility Checker to make sure it works in your home before purchasing.
Beyond the Home app, you can control the Nest thermostat with your voice with Google Assistant on your Nest speaker or display, or with compatible Amazon Alexa smart devices.
In addition to the new smart features, the new Nest thermostat is available in four optional color choices: Snow, Charcoal, Sand and Fog. And a Nest Thermostat Trim Kit, is also available for purchase separately ($14.99 in the U.S. and $19.99 in Canada), designed to cover any imperfections on the wall in perfectly matched Nest Thermostat colors.
