Samsung Telecommunications America unveiled at Spring RetailVision earlier this month a data cable modem that provides high-speed Internet access and is part of the InfoRanger line.
The SCM-110R is a DOCSIS-based data cable modem, available now, that features Internet-access speeds up to 100 times faster than conventional 28.8-Kbps telephone modems, the company said.
Among other features of the $299-suggested-retail-price unit is that users don’t need a second phone line for Internet connection, and, Samsung said, the convenience of always being on so users will no longer have to dial up access to the Internet.
The SCM-110R is the next-generation model, succeeding the SCM-100R, which was the DOCSIS modem North American market leader, with a 24.7% share, according to a November 1999 Kinetic Strategies report.
According to Rene Buhay, Samsung’s director of ISP/retail sales, the company is “committed to become the manufacturer of choice for service providers and retail outlets for reliable, high-speed data cable modem[s].”
