Santa Monica, Calif. — Sharp Electronics and Video & Audio Center packed the retailer’s Wilshire Boulevard showroom Wednesday to give a formal send-off for Sharp’s second-generation Aquos Ultra HD UD27-series TVs and its first-ever high-res audio player, model SD-WH100U.
The showcase brought out top brass from both Sharp and THX, which has given the two UD27-series 4K Ultra HD TVs (60- and 70-inch screen sizes) official THX 4K certification.
Tom Campbell, Video & Audio Center corporate director, said the retailer sold 22 Aquos UD27-series 4K Ultra HD LCD TVs during the evening.
The retail launch event also presented the state of the art in audio resolution, as was demonstrated by Mark Waldrep, CEO of AIX Records, whose company is making music available from such major artists as Willie Nelson in the highest-quality digital audio resolution formats available, all of which are playable on the SD-WH100U player.
An East Coast version of the retail launch will take place at 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Value Electronics showroom in Scarsdale, N.Y., where proprietor Robert Zohn has arranged to play the SD-WH100U player through a state-of-the-art system comprised of a Krell two-channel processor and Krell iBias two-channel amplifier driving Definitive Technology flagship ST-L Super Tower speakers over AudioQuest interconnects.
