Sony will bring its groundbreaking OLED A1E Bravia TV with Acoustic Surface technology to retail next week with a kick-off event at Los Angeles-based premium independent retailer Video & Audio Center (VAC).
The TVs have no independent speakers but transmit sound through the entire screen surface. Taking advantage of the OLED’s backlight-less structure, Sony developed the sound technology that allows the entire screen to resonate the audio soundtrack. The TV enables a fusion of image and sound, with voices appearing to come directly from the characters speaking and sounds coming directly from the relative position of the action on the screen.
The Acoustic Surface technology makes possible the edge-to-edge design of the A1E series by doing away with conventional speakers usually located to the sides or below the TV. The A1E’s design eliminates any visible stand or speakers, the easel support conceals a subwoofer and cable-management system that can be folded in, against the TV, for wall mounting.
The very first Bravia 65-inch and 55-inch OLED 4K Ultra HD TVs will be offered to the public at VAC’s Village at Westfield Topanga Store at 12 p.m. on April 27 for $5,498 and $3,998, respectively.
Top Sony top factory representatives and engineers will be in attendance, including Sony Electronics president Mike Fasulo, according to VAC corporate director Tom Campbell.
TV demos will display exclusive scenes from Sony Pictures’ upcoming summer blockbuster, “Spiderman Homecoming,” opening in theaters July 7.
