Fitbit Launches New COVID-19 Hub Reminding Users To Wash Hands, Stretch, And Move In Quarantine

Fitbit launches COVID-19 hub on its fitness trackers to help you stay healthy through lockdown.

With lockdown forcing many across the world to stay indoors and skip the gym, it might seem that there’s not much use for the best fitness trackers. However, Fitbit has come out with a new COVID-19 Resource Hub to help you stay well in body and mind through the coronavirus pandemic.

Starting today the Hub, which takes the form of a new tab in the Fitbit app, will offer helpful information, motivation, and resources about COVID-19 to Fitbit users. This includes tips and resources to stay fit and healthy while stuck indoors, as well as offering updates from the World Health Organization. One of the new features, the Clean Cues clock face, offers reminders to wash hands and features a timer, to make sure you’re washing for the full 20-second recommended wash time.

As well as guidance on physical health, there are also options to help you protect your mental health in these stressful times. The app offers mindfulness content and reminders to take breaths, stretch, and move with the motivational Reminders to Move feature. Other features being offered include:

  • New clock faces, like the Clean Cues clock face, for Fitbit smartwatches that offer a friendly reminder and timer for washing your hands
  • Motivational reminders to take breaths, stretch, and move, with Reminders to Move
  • Advanced sleep tools and guided programs
  • Mindfulness content, through the Relax guided breathing exercises or sessions via Premium
  • Nutrition tips and healthy habits
  • Ways to connect with others to stay motivated as a part of the Fitbit community

Wearables are adapting to COVID-19 needs

Fitbit is not the only company offering coronavirus updates to the best smartwatches. A recent Apple Watch update aims to detect the ‘flu-like symptoms’ we associate with COVID-19, to help users engage with their health and monitor key metrics like sleep and BPM. However, the new Fitbit update helps users to take more of an active role in preventative measures by encouraging good habits such as handwashing and motivating users to move and stretch.

Fitbit has also extended its Premium features to new subscribers with a free 90-day membership, offering access to its online fitness classes to help new users workout at home and sleep better.

This membership includes a multitude of workouts and wellbeing programs, from running and yoga to body strength training, high intensity interval training and sleep hygiene. With a full 90-day membership on offer, completely free, this offer should (hopefully) get new users through quarantine.
