New York — Connected health device supplier Withings today unveiled a new wrist-worn device, the Activité, a Swiss-made fashion-oriented timepiece that doubles as an activity tracker.
The waterproof Activité monitors steps taken, calories burned, distance traveled or swam, as well as sleep patterns. Its smart sensors automatically detect and switch between active and sleep mode and it includes a vibrating alarm clock function.
It also connects to iOS devices through Bluetooth Low Energy and will automatically update when time zones are crossed.
Designed in Paris and made in Switzerland, the Activité boasts a classic round face and traditional analog display. It features two hand dials, one showing the time and a sub dial showing percentage progress against specific activity targets such as steps or sleep.
The Activité works with the Withings Health Mate application that allows users to develop personal activity plans while acting as a coach to help them achieve personal goals. It allows users to monitor progress, share results and vibrates with encouragement as goals are surpassed.
Available in black or silver, the watch case is made of stainless steel, with a crystal of “unbreakable sapphire glass” that includes touchscreen capabilities to tap between modes. Its leather strap is sourced from the Tanneries Haas, one of France’s most well-known tanneries, the company said. An interchangeable plastic strap is also included for sportswear and underwater use.
It is powered by a standard coin watch battery.

The Activité will be available from selected retail partners and on Withings.com in the fall. It will retail for $390.
